Iftach COHEN is an international lawyer. He specialises in humanitarian law, human rights and refugee law and is a graduate of the European University Institute in Florence, Italy. In 2009, he co-founded, together with Adv. Omer Shatz, a law firm specialising in human rights and litigation before the Israeli Supreme Court. In 2010, they also co-founded an NGO that provided pro bono legal representation to detained asylum seekers, including victims of torture, sexual abuse and human trafficking. In 2016, on behalf of an international organisation, he initiated and led an innovative legal project in Sicily, which enabled asylum seekers in Italy to access their rights and legal information. In 2018-2019, he represented EASO as a member of an international team of experts, sitting on the Territorial Commission for the Recognition of International Protection in Rome. As a senior legal adviser, he is currently leading a legal team and managing the civil front-LEX project (ECHR, CJEU).
