Overdue: Frontex chief Leggerie resigned

front-LEX welcomes the long overdue resignation of Fabrice Leggerie as Director of the European Border Agency Frontex. The EU anti-corruption agency Olaf was investigating possible misconduct at Frontex. Illegal pushbacks by European border guards were long denied and denied although sufficient evidence was available. Shortly before the investigation was completed, Leggerie now came under pressure from investigators. The pressure that led to this situation is mainly due to the work of our front-LEX legal team, Omer Shatz and Iftach Cohen.

Human rights organizations have long criticized Frontex for becoming much larger and more powerful, for being non-transparent, and for neglecting the protection of fundamental rights.
